UPM

The single source of truth for your product and process data.

UPM (Unified Process Management) brings engineering data, business processes, and approval workflows together on a single platform. Instead of splitting BOM, revision, document, and process management across separate systems, UPM runs the full engineering flow on one backbone.

Modules

UPM's core modules and the capabilities each one covers.

Process Management

Design processes, workflows and approval chains with a flexible engine; manage tasks, assignments and approvals at every step.

  • Drag-and-drop workflow designer: states, transitions and conditions
  • ECR/ECO engineering change processes with multi-step approval chains
  • Automatic task assignment, reminders and overdue alerts
  • Full audit trail at every step: who approved what, and when

Project Management

Plan and track projects end to end with scheduling charts, capacity analysis and Gantt views.

  • Gantt views, milestones and dependency management
  • Resource and capacity planning with per-person/team workload analysis
  • Project templates to launch recurring work in one click
  • Planned-vs-actual comparison and progress tracking

Item Management

Manage parts, materials and product trees — flexible search and classification by attribute, supplier and cost.

  • Multi-level BOM creation, cloning and revision comparison
  • Part, material and supplier records with custom attributes
  • Classification tree that drives part reuse and prevents duplicates
  • Flexible search by attribute, material, supplier or cost

File Management

Keep drawings, documents and technical files in one place with full revision and version control.

  • Automatic revision and version control (A, B, C… or 1, 2, 3…)
  • Drawings, technical specs, documents and CAD files in one repository
  • Check-in / check-out to prevent concurrent editing conflicts
  • The released revision always reaches the shop floor

Dashboards

Customizable dashboards for production, engineering and management — real-time visibility and decision support.

  • Role-based customizable dashboards: engineering, production, management
  • Pending approvals, overdue tasks and open changes on a single screen
  • Charts, tables and KPI widgets for real-time visibility
  • Report export (Excel / PDF)

Native AI

Built-in AI for document summarization, smart search and process automation — no add-ons or third-party tools needed.

  • Document summarization and content extraction
  • Natural-language search: “gasket drawings revised last month”
  • Automation suggestions for repetitive process steps
  • Built into the platform — no add-ons or third-party integrations

Core Features

  • Multi-level BOM management and comparison
  • Automatic revision control (A, B, C... or 1, 2, 3...)
  • Engineering Change Request/Order (ECR/ECO) workflows
  • Document management: drawings, technical specs, manuals
  • Flexible workflow engine (approval/review/assignment)
  • Role-based access control (RBAC)
  • Full audit trail
  • Flexible search: by attribute, material, or supplier

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions about PLM and UPM.

What is PLM?

PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) is the practice of managing all of a product's data and processes — from initial idea through design, manufacturing, and after-sales support — in one central system. BOMs, technical drawings, revisions, documents, and approval workflows form the core of PLM.

What is UPM?

UPM (Unified Process Management) is the PLM software built by Sofa Yazılım for SMB manufacturers. It unifies process, project, item (BOM), and file management on a single platform with built-in AI, and can be deployed in the cloud or on-premise.

What is the difference between PLM and ERP?

ERP manages commercial processes such as stock, purchasing, production planning, and finance. PLM manages the engineering side of the product — design data, BOMs, revisions, and change processes. They are complementary, not competing: UPM integrates bidirectionally with your ERP, and for Workcube users our HyperCube product provides direct integration.

What is the difference between PDM and PLM?

PDM (Product Data Management) focuses mainly on version control of CAD files and technical documents. PLM includes that and adds process management, ECR/ECO change workflows, project tracking, and ERP integration on top. UPM is a full PLM platform that covers PDM capabilities as well.

Which CAD systems does UPM integrate with?

We provide integration with mainstream CAD systems — SolidWorks first among them — and have add-in development experience for Inventor and Solid Edge. BOMs and drawings created on the CAD side transfer to UPM automatically.

Do SMBs need PLM software?

If BOMs live in Excel, drawings in scattered folders, and revisions in email threads — yes. Manufacturing from the wrong revision, lost documents, and data that doesn't match ERP records create real costs for SMBs. UPM is designed to solve these problems without the complexity and cost of enterprise PLM suites.
